Riverbend opened in Sellwood in 2017, upstairs from the bookstore on 13th Avenue. Kevin Park, a former high school teacher, started it for the students who quietly fall behind. Read how a weekly hour with the same tutor changes a school year.
The same face
Students keep one tutor across the term, so trust builds and small changes get noticed early.
Written notes
Parents get a short note explaining the hour, so nothing stays hidden between school reports.
Measured progress
Every eight weeks we look back at where your child started, so you can judge whether the sessions are working.
One hour, one student, one tutor. Sessions run in person at Sellwood or online, and the work follows the school curriculum rather than a separate workbook.
$60
Monthly tutoring package
Eight one-hour sessions booked across the month, at the same time each week. A steady rhythm suits students who need regular practice more than a last-minute sprint.
$420
SAT and ACT prep course
Twelve sessions plus four full practice tests. Timed practice under exam conditions is what moves scores, so the tests are built into the course, not added at the end.
$950
Small group reading club
A small reading group meeting monthly. Reading aloud, discussing a shared text, and practising the fluency that one-on-one time cannot always build.
$180
Why Riverbend
The same tutor every week, and a note home after each session
What stays constant from the first session to the last.
01
Free skills assessment
Every student starts with one, so the first sessions target the gaps that actually matter instead of guessing.
02
Same tutor weekly
One tutor stays with your child across the term. A rotating tutor misses the small shifts that show up first in class.
03
A note after each session
A short written note explains what was covered and what to practise before the next hour.
How it works
From first message to weekly sessions
Step 1
Free skills assessment
Your child’s first session, so we can see exactly which gaps need attention before anything else is planned.
Step 2
Weekly tutor match
We pair your child with the same tutor and a fixed weekly slot, in person or online.
Step 3
Progress notes home
A short written note arrives after each session, so nothing about the hour stays a mystery at home.
Step 4
Eight-week review
Every eight weeks, we compare progress against the first assessment so you can see whether it is working.

What families say after a term
My daughter went from dreading math to asking for extra problems. Kevin found exactly where she got lost.
TTara L.
The SAT prep was organized and realistic. My son knew what to expect on test day.
BBrian H.
Weekly notes after every session meant we always knew what they worked on.

Tell us where your child is stuck
Some students slip in math, others in reading, and the weekly hour is where it gets caught.
